Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 The fuel tank is known for the odd noise or two! sounds like a dull thud from under the floor! espcially where you were sitting as you were right above it Quote
seatkid Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 If it knocks everytime you go over a bump then 90% likely its one or both ARB (anti roll bar) links. Common fault - do a search and there is everything there is to know about it on this forum. They are cheap and easy to DIY. Quote
Guest dmc Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 if it sounds like its coming from the middle under the car, look at the exhaust heatshield above the center silencer,on the left side of the car. its commen for this to bend downwards and touch the top of the silencer. you could try wobbling the exhaust at the tailpipe to test it. Masked Marauder Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 The fuel tank thud tends to be about a 3rd of a tank of fuel btw. Quote
Guest cliftonj Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 You seem to have good advice from others here, but when we had a knocking underneath, my wife took our Galaxy to Mr Ford. An engineer checked it out, found a loose mounting or similar (my wife wasn't exactly sure...!) and fixed it for nothing. All done in about 45 minutes. It maybe helped that she had the kids with her.Worth trying your local dealer to at least assess it. Quote

RussT Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I had something similar a couple of years ago.I could not work out where it was coming from and it turned out to be a broken rear engine mounting.A local garage realised what it was straight away, just by rocking the engine. Quote
marinabrid Posted January 19, 2005 Author Report Posted January 19, 2005 its just occured to me that when the tank was low on fuel the noise wasnt apparent now ive filled it 3/4 and it knock knock knockin ! i sha;ll keep me ears open and eye on the fuel level. thanks all. Quote
